Amardeep Steel is a supplier of A513 1020 DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) tubing is a strong and precise steel tube that's easy to work with using various processing methods. It has a smooth black or dark brown finish and consistent dimensions throughout. Although it’s made from welded tubing, the welding seam is removed, giving it the appearance of seamless tubing. It’s designed for close tolerances and high strength, making it ideal for use in axles, bushings, hydraulic cylinders, and hinges.
The 1020 grade is the most common, but for larger sizes (over 2 inches in diameter) or thicker walls (more than .156 inches), grade 1026 is typically used. Both grades meet ASTM A513, the standard for electric-resistance-welded carbon and alloy steel mechanical tubing.
1020 DOM steel tubing (ASTM A513) is a type of steel tubing made from 1020-grade carbon steel, which is known for its good strength and formability. "DOM" stands for "Drawn Over Mandrel," a manufacturing process where the tube is formed by drawing it over a mandrel and through a die, resulting in precise dimensions and a smooth interior surface.
ASTM A513 is the standard specification that governs the production of electric-resistance-welded carbon and alloy steel tubing, which ensures the tubing meets specific mechanical properties and tolerances.
1020 DOM steel tubing is commonly used in applications requiring high quality and dimensional accuracy, such as automotive parts, hydraulic cylinders, and machinery components.
Our 1020-dome steel comes in various sizes and thicknesses to suit your specific requirements. We offer a selection of standard sizes, and we can also create custom sizes and lengths upon request.
DOM tubing is often used to make race cars and motorcycle frames.1020 dom steel tubing grade is typically used for small-diameter or thin-wall DOM steel tubes. In contrast, the 1026 grade is used for DOM tubing with an outside diameter larger than 2 inches and wall thicknesses greater than 156 inches.

DOM tubing is usually made from grade 1020, but it can also be 520 or 1026. The 1026 grade is typically used for outside diameters larger than 2 inches and wall thicknesses greater than 0.156 inches. Both 1020 and 1026 grades comply with ASTM A513 Type 5.
AISI 1020 steel is a low-hardenability carbon steel with about 0.22% carbon and 0.55% manganese. It has good weldability, machinability, and high ductility, with a Brinell hardness of 119 to 235 and a tensile strength of 410 to 790 MPa. It is usually used in turned and polished or cold-drawn conditions.
DOM tubing begins as a large coil of steel that is cut into strips of a specific width based on the desired tube size. The strip is then cold-formed and passed through an electric resistance welder, which fuses the edges together to create a tubular shape.
