About UNS S32760 Super Duplex Stainless Steel
UNS S32760 is a highly alloyed super duplex stainless steel with a high PREN for use
in harsh environments. It is made up of 25% chromium, 7% nickel, 3.6% molybdenum, copper, tungsten,
and nitrogen.
This is a super duplex grade that has a microstructure that is both ferritic and austenitic. In its
annealed state, the alloy is made up of between 40 and 50% ferrite. The microstructure of super
duplex has the high strength of ferritic grades and the resistance to corrosion of austenitic
grades. The metal is often used as a practical way to fix chloride-induced stress cracking, which is
stainless steel's weak spot.
It is also very resistant to sulfide stress corrosion cracking
in environments with sour gas.
UNS S32760 is known for having a high impact strength. It doesn't change from ductile to brittle, but
its impact energy does decrease slightly as the temperature drops. Even when it's welded, UNS S32760's
impact strength is only a little bit lower.
It was first made to be resistant to seawater so that pumps could be used in the North Sea. After it was
successful, it became the material of choice for many things, such as oil and gas, seawater, subsea
pipework systems, heat exchangers, and more.
